Finnish children's rhymeWell, I'm not Keith Bosley, but I have made my first (and probably last) poetic translation from Finnish.
It is a children's rhyme that my daughter knows and responds to (she can't say it all yet, but she tries). Here it is in Finnish:
-
Aurinko, aurinko lettuja paistaa,
hauska on auringon lettuja maistaa,
kiipeän puuhun, pistelen suuhun,
loput voin heittää ukolle kuuhun.
Sitten käynkin nukkumaan,
pikkuinen massuni pullollaan.
And this is my English translation:
-
The sun, the sun, some pancakes it bakes,
It's fun for the sun to taste the pancakes,
I climb up a tree, and eat some soon,
The rest I throw up to the man in the moon.
Then it's time for bed,
My little tum well fed.
