Baby X gets a name

Baby X's complex and expensive naming process was finally completed in Helsinki on the 21st July 2002.

The name is given at a special ceremony called Ristiäiset held in the Uspenskin Katedraali at 12 noon.

But before the ceremony can commence, mystery babies need to be nice and clean.

Ceasing to be a mystery baby is a very public event, so preperation is essential.

The order of business is taking a hot bath, a nice warm towel to dry off, and then undewear and a crisply pressed suit.

Getting dressed is all part of the fun, and there is sometimes time for a quick power nap before it's time to go.

Mystery babies need to be alert, and need to grab forty winks whenever the opportunity permits.

The trip to church will take about half an hour, and this too is a time to rest and plan the strategy for the day.

Having arrived at the church, it's time to get ready to get a name. All those nice clothes come straight off again, and we are ready to go.

The priest starts to sing a bit, and it's quite a long song, so we must try to wait patiently.

Mystery babies can get a little restive in such a situation. But soon all will be well and the priest takes the mystery baby from her godfather.

It's time to get wet, and our mystery baby takes it on the head. And on her back, front and all over really.

It's just like being back in the bath at home, except for all the people watching, and the singing.

But all in all it's worth it, because a mystery baby needs a new name.

Now it's time for the priest to attempt to put on the ancient traditional family christening gown. It is very beautiful, but a bit tricky to get to grips with.

Mummy wonders whether to help the priest, maybe he can't quite manage whilst singing and conducting the ceremony.

But eventually everything is sorted out, and Baby X is delighted with her new clothes.

Everything progresses just as the mystery baby had planned. By now the priest has mentioned her new name five or six times, but only those initiated in the secret language have understood.

The mystery baby already knows though, she had secretly been informed by her parents earlier.

This is the scene as the Christening concludes. There were many foreign spies present in the background, but it is believed the name remained safe.

But has the invited audience deciphered it yet?

Finally we are off to the church hall for some food and a well earned rest.
